Medical Credential - Frequently Asked Questions

QUESTION

I work with several schools or a school district. Why does my card only list one school?

ANSWER

Please list the name of the schools you work with when you apply. There is limited space on the card to list many schools, so at times only one school may be listed on the card but rest assured that the card will work regardless of the school listed so long as you have a valid affiliation with a school participating in a game or event.

QUESTION

I applied for the card several weeks ago and I have not received mine. What do I do?

ANSWER

Typical processing & mailing time is 3-4 weeks. At times, the processing time may be longer as we verify your Tennessee license and your affiliation with the school, print the card, and mail the card. You may email sportsmed@baptisthospital.com to verify that your request has been received. If a state championship event is close, you may need to receive a sideline pass from your coach or Athletic Director.

QUESTION

The application says something about responding to injuries regardless of school affiliation. Does this mean I am going to end up covering an event for someone else?

ANSWER

Not at all. Baptist Sports Medicine staffs all championships events regardless of your presence at the event. However, at some events the Baptist Sports Medicine staff is located at different sites at the event site. In those situations, you would be asked to respond to an injury you see until other staff arrives. An example of this would be if you were observing a soccer game at Spring Fling, and the Baptist Sports Medicine staff was 2 fields away. Another example would be at wrestling championships. If your team is wrestling on a mat, and the opposing team’s wrestler has an injury, you would be asked to respond to that injury since there is limited medical access on each mat.

QUESTION

Will the pass get me into the free parking or hospitality room?

ANSWER

No. The pass is only intended to give you access to the event through general admission gates, and allow you access to the sideline of the event.

QUESTION

You said that the pass will help me get into everyday events at area schools. How will that work?

ANSWER

The medical is being printed on and distributed in a similar fashion as the TSSAA’s identification card that is distributed to school administrators. Most schools choose to honor the card as a pass to enter athletic competitions. The credential is not guaranteed to give you access, since it is at the schools’ individual discretion. However most schools do recognize the credential.

QUESTION

Will I have to apply for the credential every year?

ANSWER

Yes. This allows us to maintain accurate records. Also, all TSSAA credentials are color-coded to every year. The medical credential will be updated to that color.

QUESTION

Who can I contact if I have more questions?

ANSWER

You may contact Baptist Sports Medicine at SportsMed@BaptistHospital.com or (615)284-2539, or you may contact Courtney Brunetz at the TSSAA at CBrunetz@TSSAA.org.

QUESTION

Where do I submit my completed application?

ANSWER
